Hold a Citizens’ Assembly to draft a written constitution
We believe we need competence, not chaos. We want the Government to hold a UK-wide Citizens’ Assembly to draft Britain’s first Written Constitution, to guarantee expertise in key cabinet roles, lock in accountability, and protect freedoms.
Require a referendum and 2 years' notice for any major constitutional changes
No government should be able to make major changes to constitutional structures without a referendum from the British people, including changes to elections or alterations to the powers or composition of Parliament. Proposed changes should have at least 2 years' notice to enable research & debate.
Referendum changing the UK from constitutional monarchy to a democratic republic
We think there should be a referendum on the future of the monarchy & the type of government they want to be part of. Stay as a constitutional monarchy or become a true & secular democratic republic. We think it's time we became a democratic republic, it's long overdue.
Hold a referendum on planned changes to trial by jury
We believe the Government has no right to abolish or restrict trial by jury without a referendum.
Pass a law that triggers an early General Election via a public petition
Right now, only the Prime Minister can request an early General Election. We believe the public should also have a clear democratic mechanism to do so.
