Some children are using VPNs to circumvent the age-related provisions in the Online Safety Act. I propose that to protect children it should be illegal for anybody under the age of 18 to access the internet. This would protect children from the dangers of the internet and preserve internet privacy.

Review laws preventing under 18s from access to online sexual content
We ask the Government to review laws that prevent under 18s from accessing sexual content online. We want the review to look into focusing instead on improving and implementing mandatory sex and relationships education for all students.
Ban social media for under-16s to protect children
Ban social media access for under-16s. We think this could protect their mental health and childhood. Evidence shows it can cause harm, exposing children to bullying, addiction and inappropriate content. Follow Australia’s lead to prioritise their well-being. Social media can wait—childhood cannot.
Government ban on social media to be for under 13s only
Any government ban on social media that is introduced should be for under 13s only. We want people 13+ to be able to use social media. Not just 16+, as we believe 13 is reasonable as you are officially a teen and responsible for yourself.
Amend age-of-consent laws to protect those under 21
Currently, the age-of-consent in England and Wales is 16, with only a handful of exceptions. I believe this is woefully inadequate, as 16-20-year-olds are still maturing, and can still be taken advantage of by older adults.
Fund a government-run online age verification system
We call on the UK Government to establish and fund a centralised, secure age verification system that is free or low-cost for platforms. This system could enable age checks to protect vulnerable users while supporting small to medium-sized businesses and comply with the Online Safety Act.
