Do not introduce any new taxes or increase any existing taxes
We urge the UK Government not to introduce any new taxes or to increase existing taxes. Ordinary citizens are already facing unprecedented financial pressures, yet there are reports that Government continues to seek additional ways to tax incomes, savings, property, fuel, and everyday essentials.
Ban Members of Parliament from being residential landlords
We ask the Government to introduce legislation preventing sitting MPs from being residential landlords. We believe MPs who profit from rental income are in a conflict of interest when voting on housing, rent, and tenant legislation, which may undermine public trust and fair representation.
Do not increase VAT
There is speculation that VAT might be raised. We are already paying more VAT than most other countries and we believe the British public cannot handle any further price increases. Businesses are struggling as it is and raising VAT could cause further damage to our economy.
New regulations mandatory landlord checks and invest in more social housing
Reform tenancy law help prevent fraud and abuse by rogue landlords. Introduce mandatory landlord checks and reinvest in social housing to protect tenants from exploitation and prevent avoidable homelessness.
Legislate to allow landlords to sell properties directly to government
We call on the Government to introduce new legislation to allow landlords to sell tenanted properties directly to the government, so tenants are not made homeless.
