Ban MPs from accepting any gifts or donations from businesses and individuals

Politicians are lawmakers and should be held to the highest standards of integrity. Yet MPs are currently allowed to accept gifts, hospitality, and donations from businesses and individuals. We think that even when declared, this can create a clear conflict of interest and undermine public trust.

Introduce a public misconduct register for police accountability & transparency

Legislate to introduce a public misconduct register for police found guilty of misconduct or gross misconduct, including bullying and discrimination. We think this should be known as 'Isabelle’s Law'.

32Reasons

Make MPs and Ministers publish yearly verified reports of assets and debts

Create a law requiring all MPs, Ministers and senior civil servants to file an annual declaration of total assets and debts (value ranges), the country of all bank or investment accounts, and any rise in overall capital. Verified independently and published yearly to improve transparency.

Review the tax affairs of all sitting MPs for public peace of mind

Government or Parliament should initiate a review of the finances of all sitting MPs for all years they have sat in office. The review should make sure they were conducting themselves according to the law regarding taxation, including with regards to their assets.

18Reasons

Require MPs to seek independent approval before personal transactions over £20k

Require MPs to report any planned personal financial transaction they wish to make over £20,000, including trustee decisions, to an independent parliamentary ethics adviser for review before execution, to prevent future scandals and restore trust in politics.
