Security officer safety measures needed
Following the death of a security officer on duty, residents are calling for improved protective measures and equipment for security personnel working in high-risk areas.
Require metal detectors and bag and ID checks at all mainline railway stations
The government should ensure all major mainline railway stations, where passengers can board a train that will travel non-stop for more than 15 minutes, are fitted with airport-style security, such as baggage scanners, metal detectors and ID checks.
Review railway laws & regulations to ensure safer, reliable trains
Launch a review of all railway laws & regulations to ensure all train services enforce safe carriage limits, improve ventilation, upgrade signalling and infrastructure, train staff in crowd control, increase service reliability & build a fair, transparent compensation system for disrupted journeys.
Make it law that all public trains have working CCTV at all times.
Introduce a legal requirement for all public passenger trains to have working CCTV whenever in service, with standardised retention periods and guaranteed police access, to improve investigations and protect women and girls from sexual offences.
Fund security guards and CCTV on school premises & introduce new protocols
We believe there has been a rise in threats to schools and we ask the Government to implement security measures to protect our children. We urge the Government to fund security guards and CCTV on all school premises, and require routine lockdown protocols in all schools.
