Make politicians legally responsible for their election promises
Require all individuals standing for public office to sign a legal declaration to say that if elected, they will carry out their duties with honesty and integrity and fulfil their promises to the electorate. Otherwise, I think they should be held criminally liable.
Call a general election if a government breaks an election manifesto promise
We call on the UK Government to introduce legislation that would trigger an immediate general election if a governing party breaks a commitment set out in its election manifesto.
Require an election if 70% of the government manifesto isn’t delivered
Create a law requiring governments to deliver at least 70% of their clear, measurable manifesto pledges within a Parliament. If they fail, a general election must be triggered, with delivery independently verified.
Make an independent body to enforce elected politicians’ performance & behaviour
Create an independent body to monitor and enforce the performance and behaviour of elected politicians, and which has the power to take action when there are breaches or failures to act appropriately. We believe there have been many instances of corruption and failures not been acted upon.
Ban party to put forward candidate if it has broken manifesto commitments
We call on the Government to introduce legislation to prevent a political party from putting forward any candidates in the general election if they have been found to have broken a manifesto commitment in the preceding parliament.
