Always include child's biological father on birth certificate

Right now in the UK, a father who is not married to or in a civil partnership with his child's mother cannot be added to his child’s birth certificate without the mother’s agreement — unless he goes through a long, costly court battle.

Give father access to birth registration appointment if present at the birth

This is not anti-mother it is pro-child! This petition does not seek to remove or weaken mothers’ rights. It seeks to recognise responsible fathers equally, reduce conflict, and protect the best interests of children. Good fathers who show up from day one should not be treated as legally optional.

Amend laws on parental titles on birth certificates

We believe UK law needs to be more flexible to allow parents to choose & amend the parental title recorded on their children’s birth certificates, to allow for two mothers/fathers. We think this is important to help formally recognise the realities of their lives and relationships.

Make Letterbox Contact a Legal Requirement for safe Birth Parents

We call for the reform of adoption laws to make letterbox contact a legal right for safe birth parents. This can bring reassurance & healing; for children, it can preserve identity, belonging & wellbeing. Some birth parents are allowed one letter a year, which, at present, is not legally enforceable

Enable parents to register birth and death of babies carried beyond 24 weeks

We ask the Government to change the law so parents can register the birth and death of babies carried beyond 24 weeks, even if they passed earlier. Families deserve recognition and dignity, not the miscarriage label, for the babies they carried and gave birth to.
