Bring back 75% business rates relief for retail, hospitality & leisure sectors
Business rate increases and business rate relief reductions come into effect in April 2026. We urge the Government to increase business rates relief back to 75% for retail, hospitality & leisure. We are concerned increases could lead to business closures, substantial job losses & empty properties.
Abolish business rates for UK pubs and hospitality businesses
Scrap business Rates for UK Hospitality sector full stop. This will encourage new and existing businesses to invest, whereas the current regime will see closures and job losses.
Link small business rates to profitability instead of property value.
The Government should reform business rates, so small and micro businesses are assessed based on actual profitability rather than property rental values. We believe this would create a fairer system that reflects modern trading conditions and supports financially vulnerable high-street businesses.
Set an allowance for business rates under which the cost is always zero
Currently business rates are charged from zero if if the rateable value is over a set amount. Business rates should be of zero cost on rateable values under a set allowance. Business rates should only charged on rateable values over a set allowance.
Excessive parking charges affecting small businesses
A resident is campaigning against high parking charges at a shopping parade with only 6 small shops, arguing that the cost discourages shopping locally and favours large supermarkets. The resident claims parking costs exceeded the price of their purchase.
