Make British politics compulsory in the secondary school curriculum
British politics should be compulsory in secondary school to help prepare young people for the responsibility of voting in elections. The fundamentals of British politics and how to vote: we think these things which are lacking in the British education system.
Add critical thinking to the national curriculum
We want critical thinking to be added as a mandatory part of the national curriculum in all schools.
Work with devolved governments to extend the grooming gangs inquiry
Work with devolved governments to extend the national inquiry into group based child sexual exploitation to Scotland and Northern Ireland. We think this is a form of group based child sexual abuse which has been significantly neglected, and which is at risk of becoming worse.
Fund high-quality, non-partisan political and citizenship teaching resources
Youth Parliament UK urges the Government to invest in high-quality, non-partisan lesson resources that any teacher can use. It’s vital students are taught the skills for informed and active participation in society, but too often teachers don’t have the support, leaving students without consistency.
Add Welsh, Irish, and Scottish Gaelic languages to English national curriculum
As additional options students can take in class, the English curriculum should feature Welsh, Scottish Gaelic, and/or Irish. Similar to how French and Spanish is commonly taught.
