I want Parliament to pass a law to give both parents the right to attend their child’s funeral unless legally prevented, and for Government to provide statutory guidance to funeral directors to protect these rights.

Members can read every reason.
Grant statutory right to leave for employees when a parent passes away
Introduce minimum statutory leave for employees after the death of a parent.
Expand eligibility for bereavement damages to adult children
Update the Fatal Accidents Act 1976 so adult children can claim bereavement damages for their parent’s death. We feel this current law excludes many families, is outdated, and needs reform to reflect modern family relationships.
Require cemeteries to give more rights to family members to erect a headstone
We think family members should be able to give a loved one a headstone, including where they are not the owners of the plot. At the moment they may not be able to unless certain circumstances are met.
Enable parents to register birth and death of babies carried beyond 24 weeks
We ask the Government to change the law so parents can register the birth and death of babies carried beyond 24 weeks, even if they passed earlier. Families deserve recognition and dignity, not the miscarriage label, for the babies they carried and gave birth to.
Make funeral directors a regulated profession
We believe the funeral industry must be regulated as there are a lack of government regulations for setting up a funeral business, meaning owners don't need to meet specific requirements.
