We ask the Government and Parliament to recognise online defamation, and cyberbullying as a specific offence, given that it can cause real psychological, social, and professional harm.
Strengthen Hate Crime Laws for Disabled People & Recognise Their Vulnerability
Disabled people can face high levels of hate crime causing serious physical and emotional harm. We urge the UK Government to strengthen hate crime laws, introduce tougher sentencing, fund improved police and CPS training, and fund increased support for disabled victims as they are more vulnerable.
Amend the Domestic Abuse Act to tackle cross-border legal & financial coercion
Amend the Domestic Abuse Act regarding the prosecution of cross-border coercive and economic abuse, including the misuse of foreign legal actions (SLAPPs) as a form of ongoing domestic abuse that can cause harm in the UK.
Increase domestic violence maximum sentences and penalties & reform bail laws
We call on Parliament to increase domestic violence maximum sentences and strengthen bail laws by banning bail to high-risk and repeat offenders. Increase penalties for repeat abuse and restraining order breaches to prioritise victim safety. Risk assessments should be required before release.
Criminalise & legally require schools to tackle bullying in & out of school
We urge the Government to make repeated bullying over the age of 10 a specific criminal offence, and to make it a legal requirement for schools to act on all forms of bullying, inside and out of school, and mandate mental health reviews after bullying-related self-harm.
