Disabled people can face high levels of hate crime causing serious physical and emotional harm. We urge the UK Government to strengthen hate crime laws, introduce tougher sentencing, fund improved police and CPS training, and fund increased support for disabled victims as they are more vulnerable.

Strengthen laws & penalties for online harassment/stalking and improve support
Reform stalking and online harassment offences so they carry stronger penalties; establish clear standards for police response and the use of digital evidence; increase funding and access to support services for victims including legal guidance and safety resources
Change the law to allow under 16's to be recognised as victims of domestic abuse
We want the government to amend the Domestic Abuse Act 2021 so children under 16 who experience abuse at the hands of a parent or partner can be legally recognised as victims of domestic abuse. Every child affected deserves to be heard, protected, and supported in law and through services.
Review support for disabled people in accessing employment tribunals
We call on the Government to review the support available to help disabled people access and present their case in employment tribunals.
Legislate crimes motivated by misogyny are hate crimes, fund support & training
The Government should amend the Sentencing Act 2020 to record crimes motivated by misogyny as hate crimes and introduce tougher laws for online abuse, and fund the training of police and prosecutors, and support for survivors in education.
Recognise ‘Veteran’ as a protected characteristic in law.
Make ‘Veteran’ a protected characteristic in the Equality Act 2010 to help ensure veterans aren't disadvantaged and that Armed Forces Covenant objectives are consistently applied. Require organisations to enable recording of veteran status with safeguards and prevent discrimination or disadvantage.
