Check that MPs’ declarations of financial interests are full and accurate
Check for financial discrepancies in every MP’s submissions to the Register of Financial Interests. This should happen as the self-declaration of interests that is currently being used seems to fail on far too many occasions.
MPs repeatedly failing to disclose financial declaration on time to be suspended
Reform MPs’ financial disclosure rules so repeated late declarations automatically trigger Standards Committee referral and suspension. We believe this would ensure patterns of non-compliance have real consequences, including recall where thresholds are met.
Stop MPs and Ministers from attributing extreme political views to the public
Add a rule to the House of Commons Members Code of Conduct and THE Ministerial Code setting out that MPs and Ministers should not attribute extreme political views to members of the public without clear evidence.
Make conflict of interest a criminal offence for MPs and Peers
Make it a law that any MP or member of the house of lords should not have a conflict of interest in any law, guideline or deal to be presented to the government. They should not have any links to businesses that will profit from new contracts from the above mentioned including company shares.
Prevent people convicted of serious crimes standing or serving as MPs
Ban anyone who has ever been convicted of serious offences (such as sex offences against children, terrorism, serious fraud, corruption, violent crimes) including foreign convictions and given a custodial or suspended sentence from standing for or serving as an MP; when appeals have been exhausted.
