We call on the government to stop the planned business rate hikes. We believe this hike is going to drive prices up even further, result in more High Streets being abandoned by small and medium business and drown an already struggling pub trade.

Do not increase University Tuition Fees in 2026
We call on the Government to reconsider the increase of the University tuition fee cap in 2026, and keep it at the current level rather than increasing it to meet inflation.
Do not increase VAT
There is speculation that VAT might be raised. We are already paying more VAT than most other countries and we believe the British public cannot handle any further price increases. Businesses are struggling as it is and raising VAT could cause further damage to our economy.
Stop using the fair maintainable trade calculation for pubs’ business rates
Change the unique way by which public houses are assessed for business rates. We think this will help to slow down the closures of public houses. Current taxation policies are making ever-increasing numbers of public houses unviable.
Do not introduce any new taxes or increase any existing taxes
We urge the UK Government not to introduce any new taxes or to increase existing taxes. Ordinary citizens are already facing unprecedented financial pressures, yet there are reports that Government continues to seek additional ways to tax incomes, savings, property, fuel, and everyday essentials.
Introduce business rate relief to small businesses that are not making a profit
The Government should rethink how business rates apply to small businesses. Even when businesses may be struggling or operating at a loss, they’re expected to pay the same rates. This can put pressure on them when they can least afford it; increasing the risk of closures on our high streets.
