Make social class a protected characteristic under the Equality Act
The government should amend the Equality Act 2010 and make social class a protected characteristic.
Include hair colour as a protected characteristic under the Equality Act
We want hair colour to be included as a new protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010, so cases of people being discriminated against due to having a different hair colour would not be tolerated or accepted.
Recognise ‘Veteran’ as a protected characteristic in law.
Make ‘Veteran’ a protected characteristic in the Equality Act 2010 to help ensure veterans aren't disadvantaged and that Armed Forces Covenant objectives are consistently applied. Require organisations to enable recording of veteran status with safeguards and prevent discrimination or disadvantage.
Approve and implement the EHRC guidance on meaning of sex in the Equality Act
The Supreme Court has issued a ruling relating to the definition of sex in the Equality Act. We want the Government to immediately approve and implement the resulting guidance produced by EHRC. We think the delay is untenable.
Ensure statutory guidance under the Equality Act is debated in Parliament
The EHRC has submitted a new statutory code of practice which will cover single sex spaces to the Minister for Women & Equalities. Unless challenged, the process does not require debate in the House. This petition is to ensure that such statutory guidelines are required to be debated in Parliament.
