In Billy's own words

I'm currently a student at the University of Gloucestershire, studying Ecology and Environmental Science. It's clear to me with every day that the situation is urgent and needs immediate attention. As a scientist, I simply can't sit on my hands and ignore it.

My uni which was recently voted the most sustainable in the UK, and I'm proud to be a part of an institution that prioritises climate action. I'm aware thought that I'm also living in a town that declared a Climate Emergency without taking meaningful steps to address it.

Although I'm in the middle of my studies, I know the climate crisis isn't going to wait until I'm done. And it's because of this that I want to represent my fellow students, and fight to protect their interests. I've been campaigning for rent and tuition reductions to reflect the quality of our courses through the pandemic, as well as advocating for LGBTQIA+ protections.

I'm frustrated that sitting politicians aren't doing enough, and I want to stand for environmental issues in my home ward as well as pressing issues such as underemployment, active travel connectivity, and quality of local educational institutes. Last year I was elected as a co-covenor of the Green Students Committee, which has been absolutely brilliant!

When not studying, I've been volunteering with gardening in Winston Churchill Memorial Gardens, which has been very rewarding. I really miss doing Parkrun 5k at Pittville Park, and with my interest in Aston Villa and the Beers, Wine and Spirits Society, I'm the candidate you can certainly have a drink with once lockdown's over!
