In Muhammad's own words

Hiya! I'm Muhammad, I'm 26 and I'm standing to bring fresh energy and ideas into the council. I'm an Economic Analyst at the British Medical Association, and I previously worked in local government consulting. This has given me a real insight into the challenges facing our public services - as well as an understanding of how to fix them!

Birmingham needs serious leadership, with local representatives who understand the issues and are willing to work relentlessly to drive up standards and scrutinise service delivery. We need to be laser-focused on providing our core services and showing up for our communities - this means fixing potholes, tackling fly-tipping and solving Birmingham's housing crisis.

In addition to my day job, I'm a governor at my old school (King Edward's Camp Hill Boys), and sit on the National Members' Council of the Co-op. While at university, I was elected to the Students' Union for a year, representing 40,000 students and working closely with police and the city council to improve safety and community cohesion.

These roles have all given me really valuable experience in holding managers and executives to account, scrutinising policy and driving positive change - all of which are vital functions of an effective councillor.

I grew up in Birmingham while the Tories were underfunding our schools, closing youth centres and imposing austerity measures which cut our Council funding by over £1 BILLION. I want to help reverse this decline by creating more opportunities for young people, which will reduce antisocial behaviour and make our city the best place in the UK to grow up.

Fun fact: I've climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, trekked to Everest Base Camp and run 5 marathons for charity, raising over £10,000!
