Green Party candidate for Plaistow

Green Party

Hi, I’m Mary Ion, a longstanding Plaistow resident, NHS therapist and mother to two teenage boys. I’ve been a member of the Green Party for 12 years and have stood in local, London Assembly and general elections. Through working in the NHS, volunteering for a local charity and living with a chronic illness I have seen the way in which people’s living standards are being eroded. The most vulnerable are at risk of being left behind both nationally and locally. In Plaistow we need a strong Green voice to advocate for safer and more pedestrian and cycle friendly roads, access to recycling facilities, an end to flytipping and improved services for young people. Local youth services have not faired well in the local area and we have seen the closure of the popular Jus B centre. I do not agree with building on green belt land in the local area or in other areas of Bromley. I have petitioned against the building proposed in Hayes. As a councillor, if elected I will advocate for improvements to make the environment in Plaistow more liveable and for a strong safety net for residents who need support with care or access to education. We have a good community and environment in Plaistow but more can be done to protect the area and improve it for all residents, including the most vulnerable. Greens have a strong track record in local government and I would be honoured to extend this approach in Plaistow.
