Councillor Candidate
David Carmona

David Carmona

Independent candidate for Newnham

Independent

Cambridge is changing fast. Money is flooding in, poverty and crime are rising, our infrastructure is falling apart. The big political parties have turned local elections into a travesty of ideology and vested interests. Only Independents are free of party political shackles, and able to truly work for their constituents. I am part of a group of Independents headed by Dr Abu-Tayyem. At least two of us are standing in Cambridge in the 2026 local elections. In addition to being an Oncology consultant, Dr. Abu-Tayyem has had a lot of experience and has extensive personal contacts in Politics and International Relations, at the highest level. He is determined to make a positive impact in a political scene that is rife with extremism and populist shenanigans. If elected we will provide the residents of our respective wards with genuine representation, ensuring that their interests and concerns are heard and taken into consideration. We will also expand our alliance to cover as many of the wards of the city as possible, with the aim of having a candidate standing in every ward in the 2027 Unitary Authority elections. We will work with all stakeholders to improve our city and give us all a more secure future, based on one prime consideration: The people around us are the best guarantee of our security and well-being. **1** strengthening and empowering our communities, **2** encouraging volunteering, **3** fixing things ourselves when others won’t, **4** improving our public transport, **5** making streets safer for cyclists and vulnerable pedestrians, without penalising cars, **6** improving access to low-cost housing and **7** dental care, **8** ensuring that any mass-development of our city is properly planned and thought out.
