Councillor Candidate

Kathryn Fisher

Green Party candidate for Petersfield

Active on State

Green Party

I am deeply connected to Cambridge; I was born here, studied here and now work here. Cambridge is one of the most unequal and nature-deprived places in the UK, and those things are intrinsically linked: we will not avoid climate collapse without reducing inequality. As a councillor, I will prioritise the care of those who are most vulnerable, including our growing elderly population, the disabled community, and people who are homeless or in insecure housing. I will also be a voice for young people in Petersfield who are bearing the brunt of the mental health crisis due to climate anxiety and lack of amenity investment. I hope to put local people and our natural world back at the heart of our communal decision making. I have long been passionate about equality and community support. During the pandemic, I volunteered for Cambridge Community Kitchen and Waterbeach Foodbank. I am a proud feminist, LGBTQAI+ ally and antiracist, and care greatly about accessibility for people with disabilities. Due to my background in architecture and landscape design I am well-versed in the policies that have led to the housing crisis, and what we can do about it. I’m in favour of more council housing and introducing rent controls so tenants can have greater stability.
