Laura Graham

Independent candidate for St Martin's

Active on State

Independent

I’m a lifelong resident of St Martin’s Ward and I’m standing as an independent candidate here as I know I can get us a better deal for the area than we currently have. I’ve worked in the addiction field for over 20 years. I was an unpaid carer for 8 years and that experience has made me a strong advocate for Disabled People’s and Carers’ rights. I’m a working class socialist and a member of Jeremy Corbyn’s new party, Your Party. I’m on the advisory board of the Crystal Palace Park Trust and a trained volunteer community connector with Project Smith. I occasionally work with the High Trees Community Hub. I regularly take part in community led public art projects. If elected I will never support any council cuts that cause harm. Fenstanton and Holy Trinity schools face closure which I will stop. Lambeth Council has a £1.1 billion deficit. Their plan is sweeping cuts and the selling off of our shared spaces. I will fight to build more council homes and stop the domination of private property developers selling to overseas investors. I will support regeneration that brings community with it, but not gentrification that destroys communities. I will fix the Tulse Hill gyratory making it safe for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers. I will listen to residents and local businesses about their experiences of LTNs so that adjustments can be made where required. I will fix pot holes and pavements, and bring life back into neglected areas by improving lighting and reducing fly-tipping by offering free bulky waste collection. Residents and businesses want a regular street market outside Tulse Hill train station. I want to make Tulse Hill a destination rather than a high speed drive through. I want to build community resilience by holding regular community forums. We have a wonderful diverse community, let’s fight racism and discrimination together. I have signed the Pledge for Palestine to end Lambeth pension fund’s investment in Israel’s war machine.
