Andrew Marchington

Liberal Democrats candidate for Colne Valley

Liberal Democrats

Andrew Marchington lives in the heart of the Golcar ward with his family and knows the area very well having lived there for much of his life. Andrew has served local people as their councillor for a number of years. Andrew and the Lib Dem team hold regular help and advice surgeries and have helped many hundreds of local residents with individual problems. Andrew keeps local people informed with a regular FOCUS newsletter; listens to their views and takes action on their behalf. Andrew Marchington and the team are campaigning about the state of roads and pavement. Kirklees Highways simply does not have sufficient funding to make our roads safe. The Lib Dems proposed £1m extra for Highways in the Council's Budget but this was turned down by Kirklees Labour councillors. Too much of the green space available in the Golcar ward area has been committed to housing. Of course more houses are needed but this needs to be planned thoughtfully with the needs of existing residents in mind. This means protecting green spaces; providing sufficient facilities such as school places and doctors surgeries. Sadly, this is not happening under Labour. Labour councillors have consistently refused to even consider finding a solution to the horrendous traffic congestion that local people and businesses have to endure on a daily basis. Milnsbridge is gridlocked at some point every day, queues of traffic in the morning and evening are growing longer - local Labour refuse to do anything. The villages and communities that make up the ward are neglected by Labour. Sad but true. Andrew is a committed and energetic councillor who always speaks up for local people.
