In Penny's own words

Penny Wrout lives in Victoria Ward, which she has represented for nearly 8 years as a councillor in Hackney, working to help residents with housing, transport and waste problems. She left what she saw as a tired and complacent Labour group on Hackney Council 2 years ago and formed the Hackney Independent Socialists, who've worked closely with Hackney Green group to be an effective opposition on the Council. She works hard to help residents with housing, transport, waste and care problems and says, 'We’re living in an age when people feel increasingly disempowered so I’d like to continue as a councillor and help people get what’s rightfully theirs. If we win the Council alongside the Greens and a Green Mayor, we’d have a real chance with a fresh administration to breathe new life into Hackney services like housing and social care and make a tangible difference to thousands of people’s lives.
