In Mark's own words

Mark Durrant:

Mark is standing to continue to serve as a councillor for the Liberal Democrats in New Malden Village. He believes in the Lib Dem vision of a fair deal for all.

Mark is a Councillor, MPs Caseworker, and former Media Executive who lives in London, with his wife, a Tutor, and former Maths Teacher.

He is a passionate believer in local communities working together for the common good. He was honoured to be re-elected to serve his community after running a successful campaign with the local party in a special election in 2022. He believes in housing with good planning and good access to doctors, dentists, and good schooling. He is proud to be part of an administration in Kingston that is building the largest number of new council houses for over 40 years. He serves on the committee that is overseeing the renewal of the Cambridge Road Housing Estate in Kingston, which includes over 800 much needed affordable and council homes. He also served on the Corporate and Resources Committee which oversees the budgeting for the council, the pension panel, and the Children and Adult Social Care and Education Committee. Within his own ward he has overseen a significant improvements in the local parks including new playgrounds in all three of our local open spaces, and a significant investment to bring the pavilion at Beverley Park back into use as a much loved cafe. At the local train station Mark has advocated for a new waiting room on platform 4 with another new waiting room coming on platform 1.

He is most proud of helping to get the funding and see the building of a new Burlington Junior School - a £32 million investment in our children’s future

He is a seasoned campaigner having won his own seat twice. He is well known to local residents, and this has come about by being an active member of his local community, regular canvassing, and intelligent use of social media to get across local news.

He works for Sarah Olney MP as a Caseworker. Before that he had a near 30 year career in Advertising in major media companies. More recently a technology start-up, and so understands the importance of small business to growing our economy. He has 3 grown up children, and a new grandchild in 2023. His Stepson is a Management Consultant, his Step Daughter is studying for a Masters Degree In Climate Change at Newnham College, Cambridge University. His son has Autism and receives full time care from his local authority in Suffolk, and so Mark has first hand experience of being a carer challenges therein.
