Read Chemistry at Oriel College, Oxford. After qualifying as a chartered accountant spent ten years working for Jardine Matheson and Ananda Krishnan in the Philippines and South East Asia. On returning to the UK he worked as an stockbroker covering the markets of South East Asia. In 1987 he founded the Oriental Restaurant Company which was listed on the LSE and sold in 2001.
