Cavan was formerly a teacher and Head of Technology at Thorpe St Andrew School. He now works as a freelance graphic designer. As a former City Councillor, he was a member of the cross-party Scrutiny Committee which evaluates council policy and direction. Cavan is Chair of the Friends of Kett’s Heights with the key aims of improving biodiversity and accessibility to this much-loved open space. Under his guidance Kett's Heights has achieved the prestigious Green Flag award for excellence.
