In Gareth's own words

As the upcoming local council elections draw near, I am honoured to once again stand in Belfairs ward as your non-aligned independent candidate.

At the last election, I was proud to receive the support of 420 residents across Belfairs. That level of support meant a great deal to me and showed that many people in our community are looking for strong, independent representation. This year, I am building on that and hoping to earn the support of even more residents.

First and foremost, I believe in the immense potential of our community. Belfairs is not just a place we inhabit; it's our home, where our families grow, our businesses thrive, our futures unfold and memories are made. I am deeply committed to preserving and enhancing the unique charm and vitality of our area.

Throughout my career in various health and social care roles and settings, ranging from addiction services to homelessness and mental health, I have witnessed first-hand the importance of being able to access services to support our needs, and ensuring that our voices are heard. Every individual in Belfairs deserves to be seen, heard, and represented, regardless of their background, beliefs, or circumstances. As a non-aligned Independent candidate, I am dedicated to representing residents based on their needs and concerns, free from the influence of any political party agenda. I am committed to fostering an inclusive and participatory democracy where every resident’s concerns and aspirations are valued and addressed.

Furthermore, I am passionate about driving positive change and progress in our community. From ensuring access to quality education and healthcare to promoting infrastructure improvements, I am determined to work collaboratively with fellow councillors, community organisations, and residents to tackle the challenges we face and seize the opportunities before us.

Additionally, I am deeply committed to transparency, accountability, and integrity in governance. As your elected representative, I will uphold the highest ethical standards and strive to foster trust and confidence in local government. I believe in open communication, listening to your concerns, and making informed decisions that serve the best interests of our community.

Finally, standing for local council elections is a way for me to give back to the local area where I have lived and grown up. I was educated at West Leigh and Westcliff High School for Boys which has been a source of inspiration, support, and belonging for me. I am eager to contribute my time, skills, and passion to make it an even better place for us all to live, work, and thrive for generations to come. I am committed to:

* Living in a safer community with more police on the streets * Protecting green spaces and ensuring spaces like Belfairs Park and Golf Course are not built on and developed * Ensuring adequate money is allocated to social care * Improving the quality of our roads and footways * Improving health and wellbeing for residents * Holding political parties to account for broken election promises * Fighting for better bus services for Belfairs

On 2nd May 2024, I humbly ask for your support and trust as I embark on this journey to serve as your councillor. Together, let us build a brighter future for Belfairs.

Thank you, and I look forward to earning your vote.
