Green Party

Hi, I’m Mikey Sykes, your Green Party candidate for Rothwell. I grew up in Woodlesford and still live here, so I know this area well and hold it very close to my heart. I’m standing because I want to be a strong representative for people in Rothwell, Carlton, Oulton and Woodlesford, particularly those who are struggling with the cost of living and feeling left behind by the Labour government. I joined the Green Party in 2024 after being a Labour voter for many years. Like many others, I felt I could no longer support the Labour Party after they abandoned their pledges. I joined the Green Party because they are the only mainstream party focused on fighting hatred and discrimination, standing up for working people against big business and protecting the most vulnerable in our society. As your councillor for Rothwell, I would be focused on local issues that really matter to this community. Rent prices have become far too high and I know many people who are being priced out of the area. Poor phone signal is also a major issue for many local residents, particularly those living in the Oulton area. Too often areas like ours are overlooked and taken for granted. I will be a loud and proud representative for Rothwell on Leeds City Council.
