Green Party councillor for Walkley
Active on State
Council: Sheffield
Term ends: 2 May 2030
My name is Andy Davies. I’m the Walkley Green Party councillor, elected May 8th 2026. I’m proud to be part of the vibrant and welcoming community of Walkley. I’ve been a Green Party member since 2019. Like many of you, I became fed up with empty promises and little action from Labour locally and nationally. Instead, I joined the Greens because they better reflect my values of fairness, equality, and honesty in politics. *I have the skills and experience for the job* I run my own environmental grounds maintenance service, transforming neglected spaces into places that support both wildlife and people. I bring this same practical, hands-on approach to my activism across Walkley. In the ward I have raised and pursued repairs to potholes on Ashberry Road and challenged fly-tipping across Upperthorpe. I have also campaigned for better public transport and already led a petition to create more green space in the ward on Trickett Road. *I will always stand up for Walkley residents* As a councillor, I would always put the residents of Walkley first. Over the past year, I’ve supported Walkley food bank collections, organised community petitions and fundraisers, joined litter picks, and regularly door-knocked to listen to residents’ concerns. Unlike Labour, I act on residents’ wishes, supporting the nationalisation of Yorkshire Water and fundraising for the people of Gaza. "I aim to bring Hope back to Walkley and Sheffield" Across the country, the Green Party is growing as more people respond to Zack Polanski’s vision of bringing hope back into politics. In Sheffield, that means delivering real local results, standing up for our communities, protecting public services, creating secure green jobs, and ensuring everyone has access to decent housing, clean air, and a strong local economy. Sheffield deserves a future shaped by the people who live in it.

The responsibility of a councillor is to represent the people within a ward by making decisions on local services and other local issues. In Sheffield, council-wide decisions are made by cross-party committees, and I sit on the Economic Development, Skills and Culture Committee. We make decisions around the economic policies of the city, adult learning pathways such as apprenticeships, and major events across the city. I am also a member of the South Yorkshire (SY) Police and Crime Panel, to hold SY Police to account; I am on the SY Pensions Board, calling for divestment away from unethical investments such as Israeli-backed goods and services; and I am on the Sheffield Green Spaces forum, adding an experienced voice to the call for more wildlife-friendly management of wild spaces around our city.
What Andy's actively working on locally
Safer Streets
Too many of our roads are unsuitable for modern traffic patterns, meaning road users and pedestrians are too often put at risk. I'd like to bring about a change to the design of some roads, including Dodd Street, Howard Road, and Carr Road, to make our streets safer for everyone.
Improving Public Transport Routes
So many have got in touch with me about the need for more reliable and effective public transport in Walkley and Upperthorpe. It's a vital issue which feeds in to making our city a more accessible, healthier place to live and work; it reduces pollution, as well as issues of traffic and parking, while improving road safety for all. I will be campaigning to improve the affordability of frequency of much-used services like the 95, as well as bringing back lost services of the past.
The issues they most want to be known for
More and better public green space
Holding private companies to account
Helping independent businesses to thrive
Reducing issues of crime and antisocial behaviour
