Sam Mooney

Reform UK councillor for Hyde Newton

Term started: 7 May 2026

Reform UK

Sam is a lifelong Tameside resident who has lived in Newton for over 48 years. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, his family is at the centre of everything he does and his reason for stepping into local politics is simple: to help secure a better future for his grandchildren. Having recently retired from his career as an HGV driver, Sam has built his life on hard work, reliability and getting the job done - values he will carry into public service. Alongside this, he holds a BSc in Physics from Queen’s University, exemplifying his strong intellect and analytical approach to problem solving. Sam is passionate about ensuring young people have access to practical skills and opportunities, helping them build confidence and direction in life. Keen to support local businesses and promoting local job opportunities, the forefront of Sam's motivation is giving back and ensuring that Newton, Hyde and Tameside is a better place for the generations to come. As a branch we could not be more thrilled to announce Sam as our candidate for Hyde Newton. Grounded, approachable, hard-working and driven by strong family values, Sam will be a dependable voice for the people of the area.
