Tom Munro
Labour councillor for Whitwell
Active on State
Council: Bolsover
Term ends: 6 May 2027
I have served as one of your District Councillors for the last 11 years and over that period have worked hard to ensure that every issue raised by all residents have been referred to the appropriate officer and followed up largely with residents being satisfied with the outcome. Whilst being a District Council, I served 9 years as Chair of Planning Committee, 8 years as The Chair of Council including raising £40000+ for local charities and most recently a year as the Portfolio Holder for Growth. In addition to all of the above I have served as one of your Parish Councillors for over 40 years including currently in my 14th year as Chair of the Parish Council.

What Tom's actively working on locally
A direct bus service from Whitwell to the Chesterfield Royal Hospital
At present any resident of Whitwell needing to use public transport to get to the Royal Hospital, Chesterfield has to either go via Clowne and then Bolsover or all the way to Chesterfileld Bus Station from where they catch a bus back to the hospital. This is a long and arduous journey in both directions and is an issue that needs addressing, I am in communication with Stagecoach buses, the NHS and the East Midlands Mayor's office and will advise on the outcomes.
The provision of a new burial Ground for Whitwell
The current cemetery has only 3 to 4 years of provision for future interments of deceased residents, We are currently investigating a number of options within easy reach of Whitwell, for the provision of a new cemetery site, We are working with our local undertakers and potential land owners towards succeeding in our goal.
