Fund more training for teachers to support children with SEN

There should be more funding for more training and awareness around children with special educational needs. We believe there is a lack of understanding around special needs, and therefore a lack of understanding on how to support these children.

Provide more funding for children with SEN in schools

We want greater investment in schools/alternative provisions to make them accessible and inclusive for all.

Increase funding for learning support in schools

Teachers and children need Teacher Assistants and Learning Support Assistants. We believe without vital help and support; teaching and education may suffer, which could have a detrimental effect on all children - not just the children with additional needs.

Mandate all teachers in mainstream schools receive SEN & mental health training

Fund mandatory SEN and mental health training for all teachers. We are concerned that many children with special educational needs are being failed, as mainstream staff often lack the skills and qualifications to support pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs.

Fund a new way to support young people with SEND in schools.

Update national policy and provide funding so schools and local authorities can offer hybrid learning (blended mainstream + therapeutic/vocational/community outreach) as a first-line alternative to full-time mainstream or exclusion/PRU, with clear safeguards and accountability.

Provide funding for all schools to have a full time dedicated SENDCo

Currently in most schools the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENDCo) role is often additional to being a full time class teacher. This should not be the case. The SENDCo should be a separate role in schools. This is becoming more important with the ever growing need in SEN and schools.
