Limit fireworks & bonfires to Nov 5th & closest Saturday, new timeframe & fines
We want the government to limit fireworks and bonfires to 2 nights a year only: bonfire night itself and the closest Saturday. We also think there should be a timeframe of 6pm to 9pm. Issue fines for anyone who doesn’t comply.
Ban public use of fireworks on New Year’s Eve & promote quieter alternatives
We ask the Government to ban the use of fireworks by members of the public on New Year’s Eve, and to promote safer, quieter alternatives for celebrations, such as professionally organised drone light displays accompanied by music.
Ban both private and public use of fireworks & replace with cleaner alternatives
Ban the sale and use of fireworks at public and private events. Instead, allow organised eco-friendly displays like drone shows, as adopted in countries such as the Netherlands.
Ban the sale and use of indoor fireworks
We call on the UK Government to ban the sale and use of indoor fireworks. Although classified as F1, they emit flames and sparks that can pose a serious fire risk in enclosed spaces. We believe a ban would help prevent avoidable fires and reduce pressure on fire and rescue services.
Restrict building public bonfires to within 48 hours of the event
Many bonfires are assembled for a long time before the event and in some cases unknown waste is dumped on to the bonfire. This could damage the health of bystanders and wildlife. Animals which have started to nest in the bonfire before the event can also be burnt alive, this cannot happen anymore.
