Labour candidate for Todmorden

Labour

Diana Tremayne is Labour’s candidate for Todmorden, replacing Cllr Steve Sweeney who has represented the ward since 2012. Diana writes: “I love living in Todmorden and having already served as a town councillor I would welcome the opportunity to serve the local community further if elected as a Calderdale councillor. It was a pleasure to be able to support so many local groups when I was on the Town Council and I am proud to have taken the lead in declaring a climate emergency in 2019. Environmental and sustainability issues have always been important to me and as a mum of a teenage daughter this is something I feel even more strongly about now. This means supporting our local community and businesses through small actions like litter picking, gardening and shopping locally, as well as reducing the effects of climate change and issues such as the flooding we have faced here in Todmorden. “I’m passionate about educational opportunities for all ages and am really keen to help promote these in Todmorden using my skills and experience in education. This was the reason I got involved with the Todmorden Learning Centre project and I’m excited at the prospect of the asset transfer in the coming months. “The council faces huge challenges after a decade of austerity and the current pandemic but has maintained key services and shown a real commitment to the most vulnerable in society. If elected I look forward to the opportunity to work hard for the town with my Labour colleagues Silvia Dacre and Susan Press in the years to come.”
