In Lisa's own words

Lisa Schulkind moved to Brixton in 1990, fell in love with it, and stayed for 40 years, working and bringing up three children in Brixton and nearby.

She worked for many years as a caseworker, (at Centre 70 in West Norwood and South London Refugee Association in Streatham) doing advice and casework, supporting Lambeth residents with housing, benefit debt and other issues. Currently, she teaches English to migrants in a community setting in Tulse Hill.

Watching the impact on ordinary people of lack of regulation in housing, the erosion of the welfare state, the hostile environment, as well as incompetence and corruption in local government is what made her furious enough to want to try to change the system so that we look after the needs of people and families rather than private capital.
