Paul Bearpark
Liberal Democrats councillor for Milton & Waterbeach
Council: South Cambridgeshire
Term ends: 2 May 2030
I have lived in Waterbeach for over 20 years. I have been campaigning for many years to protect and improve Waterbeach as development occurs in and around the village. For the past 3 years I have been leading the development of policies on highways in the Waterbeach Neigbourhood Plan including active travel routes, safe routes to schools and measures to cut rat running. I founded Waterbeach cycling campaign around 4 years ago to improve the conditions for people travelling by bike or on foot. When the Waterbeach New Town planning guidelines were being developed I campaigned to have them improved to make it safer and more enjoyable for people to walk and cycle to the shops and schools. Most recently, I campaigned against the proposed routes for the Waterbeach-Cambridge public transport schemes which (still) could result in demolition of homes or damage to the countryside west of Landbeach. I am passionate about protecting our environment, fighting climate change and increasing biodiversity. For a number of years I worked with people to help them reduce their carbon footprint. More recently, I have organised repair cafes which are great community events matching repairers with people who want their stuff repaired. If elected I would work with residents of the whole ward of Landbeach, Milton and Waterbeach to address issues such as housing, environment and those arising from new development such as increasing traffic.
