In Miranda's own words

I'm delighted to be standing for election to South Cambridgeshire District Council, where as your hard-working local councillor for Shelford ward, I will bring fresh Green ideas to bear in the key areas of Planning, Environment, and Waste - the District Council's areas of responsibility.

I’ve lived and worked in Cambridgeshire for over 30 years, moved from central Cambridge ‘out to the villages’ when our son was little, and have seen him right through the local primary and secondary schools in this area. Always a very active member of our village community: from volunteering on the school PTA committee to being treasurer of the local tennis club, I’m well known for my attention to detail and for getting things done.

Previously an NHS manager for ten years, working in both acute care and then end of life care, I value our public sector and experienced first-hand the chaos and disruption following poor government decisions. I also worked for ten years as the one-woman support officer for local charity the Magog Trust, who own and manage Magog Down: those wonderful wildflower meadows and unrivalled views of the area will be familiar and very precious to many of my fellow residents.

I joined the Green Party because all the other political parties fail to adequately address the huge environmental and social challenges that we all face. Other parties' obsessive focus on purely economic ‘Growth’ at all costs must be challenged if we are to protect our environment and our waterways, and if we are to have any hope of genuinely enhancing our communities. The Greater Cambridge Partnership (GCP) states that its main purpose is ‘to support Growth': far from providing the improved public transport that we all crave, their busway plans threaten to concrete over our countryside and destroy our natural environment. We could have simply had much more frequent bus services on the existing roads, but the crazy way the GCP funding is provided means they can’t do that. Our local planning authority, South Cambridgeshire District Council (SCDC) similarly sees its primary role as 'to support Growth'. We should ask: “Growth of what? For whom? At what cost? Paid by whom?” These are the questions I will be asking if you elect me to the District Council.

The District Council elections on 7th May 2026 are Shelford's opportunity to vote for what you believe in this time: Vote Green, for Real Hope and Real Change in your area.
