Gavin Frederick Moore

Labour councillor for Bellingham

Active on State

Term started: 7 May 2026

Labour

I am the Labour councillor for Bellingham ward in Lewisham. I moved to Lewisham in 1982 and have lived in the borough ever since then. I was previously a Lewisham councillor from 1986 to 2006. I served for 7 years as Deputy Mayor, leading on Regeneration. I persuaded the council to set up Phoenix Community Housing, the first resident-led housing provider in London. I served as Chair of Education for 5 years, making sure we invested in literacy and numeracy teaching in primary schools and tackling under-performance in secondaries. I am particularly proud of the initiative I secured to involve parents and grandparents in Bellingham and Downham primary schools, to help with literacy. I was also a school governor for 24 years. Nationally I played a leading role in education. I advised a South African authority and several east European local authorities. I currently serve as a magistrate in south-east London. I have worked in London local government for over 40 years: in housing; education; and as a senior manager in environmental services and civil law enforcement.
