The Wales Coastal Path is one of our nation’s greatest assets — a world-renowned route that should be a source of pride for communities across Wales. Yet for several years, major sections around Baglan, Briton Ferry and Sandfields West have remained closed, fenced off and left to deteriorate. This unacceptable situation has denied local people access to an important walking and cycling route, damaged tourism and local businesses, and undermined community wellbeing. Residents across Neath Port Talbot are increasingly frustrated by the lack of visible progress, the absence of a clear timetable for restoration, and the continued neglect of a nationally important coastal route. The prolonged closure is impacting: - Health and wellbeing by cutting off vital routes for walking, cycling and outdoor exercise. - Active travel connections between local communities and neighbourhoods. - Tourism and local businesses as visitors are diverted away from our coastline and seaside communities. - Public confidence in local infrastructure and investment in our area. The Wales Coastal Path should not be allowed to fall into long-term decline. That is why we are calling on Neath Port Talbot Council to formally write to the new Welsh Government for urgent intervention and a clear restoration plan. We are also calling directly on the Welsh Government to work urgently with Neath Port Talbot Council and all relevant agencies to: - Secure the funding needed to restore and reopen the closed sections of the path. - Publish a clear timetable for repairs and reopening. - Treat the reopening of the route as a matter of urgency. Protect the Wales Coastal Path as a flagship national asset for future generations. - This route matters to residents, walkers, cyclists, families, visitors and local businesses alike. It is time for both Neath Port Talbot Council and the Welsh Government to work together and reopen the Wales Coastal Path without further delay.

We are deeply concerned by Whitbread’s proposal to close the Beefeater Bagle Brook pub and restaurant in Baglan. The Bagle Brook is a well-loved, valued, long-standing part of our community—a popular venue and vital social hub enjoyed by generations of local families. It provides important local jobs and supports the wider economy. Its closure would be a significant loss, removing a key community space where people gather to socialise and connect. The loss of such a prominent venue would represent a serious blow. We call on Whitbread to: - Reconsider this proposal - Fully assess the impact on the local community and economy - Work with stakeholders to explore alternatives - We urge Whitbread to withdraw this proposal and protect this important community asset.
