In Anita's own words

Anita Forde is the Green Party candidate for Leigh Ward.

Anita has lived in Southend all her life and has been part of the Leigh community for over 40 years. She knows the area well, having gone to school locally and built her working life here.

She previously ran a hairdressing business in Leigh for 18 years, training apprentices and supporting local initiatives, including helping to establish the Leigh Christmas Lights as part of the original Leigh Traders’ Association.

After raising two sons as a single parent, Anita retrained as a History teacher. She went on to spend 15 years in secondary education, gaining a Master’s in Education and standing up for staff and students through her work with the NASUWT, including serving as South Essex President.

Today, Anita runs a hairdressers once again on London Road and remains deeply involved in the community. She has supported a wide range of local events and organisations, including the Leigh Regatta, youth projects, and the Winter Night Shelter.

Elected twice to Leigh Town Council, Anita has worked to give young people a stronger voice, setting up a monthly Youth Forum and supporting local youth clubs in partnership with the YMCA.

She is now working closely with local Green councillors and is standing to bring her experience, energy and commitment to the city council.
