In 2024, Bhim Saru was elected as a Labour councillor for St Mary’s Ward on Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council. He became Deputy Mayor in 2024/25 and, in May 2025, made history as the first Mayor of Nuneaton and Bedworth of Gurkha and Nepalese heritage, and the first Nepal-born Gurkha Mayor in British politics.
