Ahalya Bala (she/her) is a social sciences lecturer who is committed to principles of social and environmental justice and she has been working and living in Oxford for 6 years. She strives to foster connections between the university and the wider community and has organised events around building solidarity with Palestine, challenging state crimes, and celebrating African heritage through music and dance. Ahalya has been a long-term member of a community-owned housing cooperative and a renters union in Oxford. She is a committee member of a local community choir and she loves engaging in activities, which help to build community cohesion - you can regularly find her singing, dancing, and practising meditation and yoga in the community. Ahalya is an active trade union member and believes in supporting and protecting people across the public sector. Like so many others, Ahalya has found hope in the Green Party and wants to work with local Green Party councillors to make Oxford a safe, clean and welcoming home for all who live here.
